A New AI Blood Test Can Spot Signs of Many Cancers at Once
Scientists at Queen Mary University of London and the University of Cambridge built an AI method that detects signs of cancer from a simple blood sample across many cancer types at once.

UNITE is a tool that detects tiny DNA fragments from cells in the blood, including cancer cells, by combining multiple signals to identify them despite their small presence.
In tests, it accurately identified 95% of healthy individuals and detected cancer in 47% of cases using a cost-effective method. While still in early research and not publicly available, it shows promise for earlier, affordable cancer screening.

🔸AI helped eye doctors pinpoint a hard genetic disease far more accurately

In a randomized trial published in Nature Medicine, an AI tool called Retina4IRD helped specialists diagnose inherited retinal diseases — genetic conditions that slowly steal sight and can stem from over 300 different genes. Doctors using the AI correctly identified the responsible gene 88.5% of the time, versus 67.3% working alone. It was tested across hospitals in China, Korea, and Poland, and worked even with a standard retinal photo.
🔸The FDA cleared a new system that builds AI right into medical imaging

CliniComp received FDA clearance for a PACS Viewer — the software radiologists use to view and manage medical images — with AI built directly into the platform alongside the hospital's records system. Instead of AI being a separate add-on, it's now woven into the tool doctors already use to read scans, part of a wider push to make AI a standard, seamless part of everyday imaging.
🔸AI is helping Bristol Myers search for medicines faster
Bristol Myers Squibb is building a new AI computing system with NVIDIA to support drug discovery and development. The company already uses AI across all its small-molecule research programs and most of its large-molecule programs. The new system will allow researchers to study more possible drug candidates while using computing power more efficiently. Every potential medicine must still pass laboratory testing and clinical trials before reaching patients.

Scientists mapped the heart’s “mini-brain” and what it does
Researchers identified two major groups of neurons inside this network. One helped regulate heart rate. The other appeared to protect the heart and keep it working properly during physical stress.

When researchers disrupted these neurons in mice, the animals developed abnormal heart rhythms and weaker heart function during exercise. This suggests the heart’s internal nervous system does more than pass along instructions from the brain. It actively helps the heart respond when the body’s needs change.
The research is still early, and scientists must confirm how these neurons work in people. But the findings could eventually lead to new treatments for irregular heartbeats and other heart conditions.
